Beavis, Butthead and Glowing Monkeys

Maybe I need to explain the glowing monkeys according to the Beavis and Butthead principle.

Take a group of scientists dedicated to the field of genetic engineering and offer them lots of money if they can conduct a research project that will benefit mankind.

Beavis and Butthead are sitting in the back of the room not paying attention…

The rest of the scientist start thinking about what kind of ground breaking research they can conduct.

Beavis and Butthead begin to get bored as the hours pass… Beavis asks, Why are we here again?”

A nearby scientist explains that they need to come up with a genetic engineering project to benefit mankind.

Butthead: “Why not make monkeys that glow in the dark?, That’d be cool…”

Beavis: “Yeah, glowing monkeys.. Heh heh,…heh, heh!!!!”

Nearby scientist #1: “Well, it is possible scientifically, but nobody would ever fund it.”

Nearby scientist #2: “I was supposed to be home 20 minutes ago… It’s my kids fifth birthday and I’m supposed to pick up the cake… I’m fine with the glowing monkeys.”

Beavis: Yeah… Yeah!!!!

Nearby scientist #1: “Yeah, it is getting late… I’ll just make up some flimsy excuse for the project… What’s the worst thing that could happen… They say no and we get another week to think up something good…”

Butthead: “Ummm…. Cool.”

I hope that clears things up for everyone.

Ramblings

Ramblings

Lots of stuff in the news the past few days and it all seems insane to me. I’m not an expert on politics, but I know what scares the crap outa me…. Besides, what kind of blog would this be if I didn’t ramble on about things I don’t know much about… but I do want to know.

President Obama uses the closings of GM dealerships as political payback…? I sincerely hope that this is only rumor, but from what little credible information is available, it’s looking like the administration is using “Who donated to Obama” as the standard for which GM dealerships are saved.

This is frightening to me… Where is the media on this? I kinda want to know how the closings were considered. What was the formula to explain what dealerships were closed. So far, the closings appear to be politically motivated. This may not be the case, but the limited information released thus far seems to imply just that.

I can speculate, but the media needs to investigate because if there’s nothing to this, I want to know. If this is just the tip of the ice-burg, this is a massive abuse of power by the administration.

What message would it send? Support me or I’ll take your business away?

Bear in mind that GM was a privately owned company and the government just took it…. “because it was too big to fail.” Screw that!!! Let it fail!!! They were too stupid and corrupt from top to bottom to continue to exist IMHO. Keeping this poor excuse for a company on life support at taxpayer expense is an insane policy and doomed to failure.

If, and I still say “if” the political payback story has truth, he’s getting rid of people who know how run that aspect of the company for petty reasons and it will backfire on him. It’s not too hard to change the sign on your lot from GM to Ford or Toyota. These guys are not going to just disappear… They will just move on over that speed bump, sell a different product and hammer the last nails into GM’s coffin.

You don’t get rid of your best people because they disagree with you on politics.

P.S. If the government can take control over GM, why not any privately owned major newspaper or network? The New York Times and The Boston Globe are on the ropes. What’s the harm?

I posted the first one on my facebook page and all I got was people asking for the good version.... OK I give...

I kinda put Lou Reed in a category with Bob Dylan and Jonathan Richman as musicians who are better writers than performers... Me, I like both sides of this debate.

James Harrison = A-Hole

James Harrison, a linebacker for the Steelers opts out of visit to the White House.... again.

OK, he did it to the previous administration too, he's an equal opportunity offender on this one... The thing that gets me is his weak ass excuse.

Here's the whole story... Via CBS Sports

Steelers star Harrison passing on 'not special' White House visit
May 18, 2009
CBSSports.com wire reports

PITTSBURGH -- James Harrison plans to pass on another trip to the White House with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Harrison, the NFL Defensive Player of the Year, says he'll skip the Super Bowl champion's visit to the White House to meet President Barack Obama on Thursday, just as he did when the Steelers were honored by President George W. Bush in June 2006.

"I don't feel the need to go, actually," Harrison told Pittsburgh station WTAE-TV. "I don't feel like it's that big a deal to me."

Harrison doesn't believe the invitation is all that special, saying if the Steelers hadn't beaten the Cardinals 27-23 with a last-minute rally, "He [Obama] would have invited Arizona."

The Steelers had no comment Monday about Harrison's comments. Steelers chairman Dan Rooney was an early supporter of Obama's and has been nominated by him to be the U.S. ambassador to Ireland.

Harrison is known for being an individualist whose on-field sullenness sometimes extends off the field as well.

Harrison, a backup at the time, and quarterback Tommy Maddox were among a handful of players who skipped the traditional White House visit by the Super Bowl champions in 2006. Maddox apparently was unhappy at being released after the season ended, although several other players who also weren't with the Steelers any longer attended.

Former Steelers linebacker Joey Porter created a stir before that White House visit by saying he intended to tell Bush he didn't like how the country was being run. Porter chose not to make those comments, but he wore dark sunglasses throughout the ceremony.

This guy is an idiot... It's not left or right.. it's all about him, and he's an idiot... and an asshole. What the hell kind of stupid excuse is that anyway!!! So the president is supposed to invite everyone over..?? Show a little respect for the office James.

Seriously James... If you want to make a statement, have a point...

Hingham misfires with snub of military hero
By Peter Gelzinis
Herbert L. Foss can’t tell us how it felt to win the Medal of Honor, only to be ignored by the town of Hingham.

That’s because Hingham’s one and only recipient of America’s highest military honor has been dead for 72 years.

Foss was immortalized for cutting a vital communications cable in the face of enemy fire during the Spanish-American war. Almost 40 years later, on Sept. 1, 1937, while he was working as the caretaker at Hingham’s Fort Hill Cemetery, Foss’ brave heart gave out.

“In all those years, this town never saw fit to name so much as a blade of grass after a true hero,” said Hingham’s veteran’s agent, Mike Cunningham. “It’s a disgrace.”

An absolute disgrace, to be more precise ... but also part of Hingham’s odd character. You see, for all the time Herbert Foss lived and raised a family there, Hingham stuck to its tradition of refusing to name buildings, schools or parks after people.

Then, about 50 years ago, Hingham’s board of selectmen suddenly decided to name an elementary school after one William Foster, a fellow selectman.

And that was it ... until Monday night.

A new elementary school, set to open in September, needed a name. All that a trio of town hacks could manage was the old name: “East School,” coupled with the “Galo Library Wing,” a nod to the current school superintendent, Dorothy “Dot” Galo.

To be immortalized in most places you need to: a) do something extraordinary, and b) be dead, or close to it. Dorothy “Dot” Galo is a nice lady, who qualifies on neither front.

Yet in a bizarre move last night, Hingham’s school committee voted 7-0 to once again ignore Herbert Foss and the impassioned plea Mike Cunnigham made to have the new school bear his name. Instead, they went with Dot Galo.

“This was a flawed, ill-conceived decision,” said James Claypoole, the former chairman of Hingham’s School Committee and current chairman of its veteran’s council. “This is a consequence of the selectmen’s failure to establish an objective policy that sets rules and criteria as to those eligible to make the cut for such an honor. We need some ground rules.

“Because no such policy exists,” Claypoole added, “the school committee was reduced to making an emotional choice.”

At the next selectmen’s meeting Claypoole will recommend that some qualifications be put forth.

Like being the only Hingham resident to win the Medal of Honor

This story nearly made me choke on my coffee this morning... I think I've just about had it with politicians naming everything after themselves... When Hingham decided to alter the laws, the towns only MOH recipient should have been at the top of the list for a school. Heck, they should have changed the law for him in the first place.

Here's an idea for a new law... lets make it illegal for politicians to name anything after themselves. grrrrrrrr....

A-Hole = Rep. Linda Sanchez, D-Los Angeles

Prison Awaiting Hostile Bloggers

"Proposed congressional legislation would demand up to two years in prison for those whose electronic speech is meant to “coerce, intimidate, harass, or cause substantial emotional distress to a person.”

Australian prison cell found on Flickr. Your cell may vary.
Instead of prison, perhaps we should say gulag.

The proposal by Rep. Linda Sanchez, D-Los Angeles, would never pass First Amendment muster, unless the U.S. Constitution was altered without us knowing. So Sanchez, and the 14 other lawmakers who signed on to the proposal, are grandstanding to show the public they care about children and are opposed to cyberbullying.

The meaasure, H.R. 1966, is labeled the Megan Meier Cyberbullying Prevention Act. It’s designed to target the behavior that led to last year’s suicide of the 13-year-old Meier.

In response to Meier’s suicide, prosecutors turned to an anti-hacking statute, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, and prosecuted Lori Drew. She was accused of violating MySpace’s terms of service agreement in what prosecutors said was a complex conspiracy to harass Meier via a fake MySpace online profile.

The judge presiding over the case is weighing a motion to nullify the jury’s verdict on allegations the authorities failed to prove Drew knew the MySpace terms of service existed — allegations that would be mooted had Drew been prosecuted under Sanchez’ proposal. Drew’s case was the nation’s first cyberbullying prosecution under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

Sanchez’ bill goes way beyond cyberbullying and comes close to making it a federal offense to log onto the internet or use the telephone. The methods of communication where hostile speech is banned include e-mail, instant messaging, blogs, websites, telephones and text messages.

We can’t say what we think of Sanchez’s proposal. Doing so would clearly get us two years in solitary confinement.

The bill has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee"

Wind-up vibrator gives greener orgasms

"A vibrator powered by a hand crank (no pun intended) has gone on sale as the world’s first wind-up sex toy.

Makers say the 'Earth Angel Vibrator' is made from recycled materials and can give an hour of eco-gasmic power for 8 minutes of cranking.

Users wind a built-in handle to charge the £65 device and can select from 4 speeds of vibration or store the energy for another time.

One user said: "It feels good to be doing my bit for the environment and now my husband doesn't keep asking what we need all the batteries for when we are at the supermarket."
Bonny Hall of sex toy website LoveHoney added: "It may sound like a wind-up, but going green has never been this sexy." "
